Final major project

The Darlington, a modern midrise commercial office building with an attached widespan hall. Designed to accommodate Sydney’s future workers, It provides a casual & collaborative experience for its occupants through functionality & sustainability.

The assignments goal was to design a modern workspace that is collaborative, eco-friendly & practical. It features a greenroof, skylights, automated louvers, emergency access, rain water collection, and a heating ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) system. The building also consists of a garage, forecourt, and widespan hall + passage between both. The midrise holds 8 floors with identical office floor plans:

  • 0 - Underground garage

  • 1 - Forecourt, foyer, widespan

  • 2-6 - Office (typical)

  • 7 - Greenroof

The midrises layout is designed to create a greener, casual and formed workspace that is sustainably capable. The underground garage keeps the buildings disposal bins, storage & services hidden from the main floors. It also holds bicycle racks to encourage cleaner transport to work. The forecourt provides a signature green aesthetic to the area that is also interactive for public use with plenty of seating & points of interest. It allows a unique experience into the buildings front door. The foyer is kept open and similarly provides area for seating/socializing, however is the main access point for reaching the widespan building & upper office floors. The typical office floor plan encourages its collaboration amongst the occupants by introducing a hybrid workspace that connects both the kitchen & breakout room, while also making maneuverability between spaces simple. The green roof is a place of ease & area to relax. It shares the same features as the forecourt but at a different perspective amongst the buildings roof.

The final project at TAFE had definitely helped me design something practical & meaningful at a larger more complicated scale. It overall demonstrated the processes & practices of designing a building but also allowed me to creatively express my work/ideas in detail.

walkthrough.

This walkthrough was made using LUMION’s video maker & imported through using my REVIT model. It demonstrates the final buildings design with rendered colours/textures & details of the area.

designing process.

Part of the project was to design a positive & collaborative experience within & around the building. The first impressions upon entering should feel at ease as well as composed once inside, yet practical. These pages show my thought process.
